What’s up, Team!?

What a great Wimbledon final last week! I had blast as I started analyzing it and identifying some of the big tactical storylines. Lots of good stuff in this video below!

We’ve got another update for you with a tactical analysis of that Wimbledon final and another opening tactic of the week!

Wimbledon Final - Tactics Analysis

It was the Wimbledon final I was hoping for - we got the rematch! Sinner came back strong and took a step to evening out this head to head. Currently their head to head sits at 5-8 in favor of Carlos, and 2-3 at the majors, with Alcaraz leading again.

Check out my video for some deeper thoughts on this match! And if you watched the final with anyone else, feel free to share my analysis with them and ask them what they think! Always fun to breakdown these classics!

Tactic of The Week

Shot Sequence

  • Ball 1: Serving on the ad side, up the T

  • Ball 2: Return deep cross court, but in the middle of the court

  • Ball 3: Server’s first ball deep to the deuce corner

  • Ball 4: Returner’s first ball deep cross but more in the middle of the court.

Analysis: This opening tactic is a great one to practice for both servers and returners.

Servers are focusing on attacking the right wing of their opponent. This is a right-hander’s forehand. Attacking a players forehand can be a great way to neutralize an opponent’s strength or pull them away from their backhand corner.

Returners are focused on reducing the angles here. As the server is attacking the forehand and pulling the returner wide, the returner is playing cross and toward the middle of the court. This is good strategy because they are trying to reduce the opponent’s potential angles.

Overall, a great opening pattern to through into a practice session!
